We’re Steve and Angie, two people whose lives were forever changed by both grief and gratitude. Our paths were shaped by personal loss—Steve’s son and Angie’s husband—and the strength it took to move forward. Through it all, we found light in the game of pickleball. It gave us laughter again, movement when we felt stuck, and a community when we needed it most.

Steve grew up in Southern California, lived in Phoenix, and has spent the past two decades in Southern Utah. He raised four children there, ran marathons, biked and hiked across the region, and discovered pickleball as both a competitive outlet and a community anchor. After losing his 18-year-old son, he was lifted by the same community he once competed with. That experience inspired him to create Heavenly Hearts, a nonprofit that supports families grieving the loss of a child or young parent.

Angie’s background is in real estate and commercial development, helping people bring visions to life. But her own path shifted six years ago when she lost her husband of 28 years in a tragic accident. Pickleball entered her life a year later and became more than a game—it became healing in motion. It reconnected her to herself and opened the door to new friendships and possibilities.

We met through pickleball a few years ago and quickly discovered a deep connection rooted in shared values, resilience, and joy. We were married two years ago and now pour our energy into building experiences that bring people together in meaningful, uplifting ways. Together, we continue to run Heavenly Hearts, host fundraising tournaments, and stay active in the sport and community that brought us together.

Soleil means “sun” in French—and that’s exactly what we hope to offer through our retreats: warmth, connection, energy, and light.
